Vitalbix Fiber-Mix 14 kg

Vitalbix Fiber Mix

Vitalbix Fiber Mix is a unique roughage mix of healthy grasses with a low sugar content and timothy structure pellets, supplemented with 3% linseed oil.

Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is optimally digestible, stimulates saliva production, and supports healthy digestion. Mix Vitalbix Fiber-Mix with other Vitalbix products to stimulate chewing. Supplement the roughage with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix for horses that could use a little extra, or partially replace the roughage with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix.

Due to its soft and shorter structure, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is also easily digestible for horses with poor teeth. Vitalbix Fiber-Mix contains no added vitamins & minerals and no alfalfa.

Mix of fiber-rich grasses – low sugar content

  • Mix of fiber-rich grasses – low sugar content
  • Stimulates chewing & saliva production
  • Supports healthy stomach and intestinal flora
  • With 3% linseed oil – rich in omega-3 fatty acids

Did you know?

Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ stimulates saliva production and helps keep your horse’s stomach and intestines healthy.

FAQ:

What is the difference between Vitalbix Pure Lucerne and Vitalbix Fiber-Mix?

Vitalbix Pure Lucerne and Vitalbix Fiber-Mix are both “roughage products.”

You feed them as a supplement to, for example, Vitalbix Daily Complete, Vitalbix Active+ muesli, or Vitalbix Breed & Grow.

What are the similarities between the two products?

They are both rich in fiber.

They stimulate chewing and saliva production

They support digestion

They have a low starch and sugar content

They contain 3% linseed oil

You can mix them both with the other Vitalbix products to encourage slower eating and better chewing OR you can feed them separately in a feed bucket

What are the differences between the two products?

Vitalbix Fiber-Mix does not contain alfalfa

The protein content of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is lower

The structure of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is shorter and softer

You can feed more Vitalbix Fiber-Mix per day

Do you want to support your horse’s muscle development in addition to feeding extra fiber?

Then Vitalbix Pure Lucerne is the best choice. Alfalfa has a higher protein content, is extra rich in amino acids, and supports good muscle development. This is useful, for example, for sport horses that are lagging behind in muscle development, young and older horses, and when your hay/haylage has a low protein content.

Does your horse have poor teeth?

Then Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is the best choice. Its softer structure and shorter fibers make this product easier for horses with poor teeth to chew and digest.

Does your horse have sensitive intestines?

Then Vitalbix Fiber-mix may be a better choice. Vitalbix Pure Lucerne is slightly coarser and can be a little too “sharp” on the intestines of some horses with sensitive intestinal flora. Vitalbix Fiber-Mix has a softer structure.

How much should you feed?

You can feed more Vitalbix Fiber-Mix per day than Vitalbix Pure Lucerne. Do you want to partially replace the roughage (hay/haylage)? You can feed a maximum of 2 kg of alfalfa per day (for a horse weighing approx. 500 kg). This is due to the calcium-phosphorus ratio of alfalfa and its protein content. You can feed up to 6 kg of Fiber-Mix per day. Fiber-Mix is therefore most suitable as a partial roughage replacement.

Does it make sense to feed both products?

It can be very useful to feed a combination of Vitalbix Pure Lucerne and Vitalbix Fiber-Mix. If you have multiple goals, such as building muscle and partially replacing roughage, then it is fine to combine the two!

Request free, customized nutritional advice here.

My horse cannot have too much sugar. Is Vitalbix Fiber-Mix a healthy choice?

Yes, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix contains no added sugars and has a sugar content of only 5%. This is significantly lower than average hay (which contains an average of 10-14% sugar). Like the other Vitalbix products, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ is a responsible choice for horses that need a diet low in starch and sugars, for example due to laminitis or PPID.

My horse has a sensitive stomach. Is Vitalbix Fiber-Mix suitable?

Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ stimulates chewing and saliva production and supports healthy digestion. By stimulating saliva production and buffering the pH in the stomach, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ can help keep the stomach healthy. Thanks to its shorter structure and soft fibers, Vitalbix Fiber Mix is optimally digestible.

Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ is suitable for all horses.

Tip: sufficient roughage (hay and grass) spread throughout the day and night is important to keep your horse’s digestive system healthy. Make sure your horse does not go without roughage for more than 4-6 hours. In case of stomach ulcers, no longer than 2 hours.

Products with a high starch and sugar content (> 15%) can have a negative effect on the pH in the stomach (lowering the pH in the stomach). For horses with a sensitive stomach, therefore, it is preferable to choose feed with a starch and sugar content of < 15%. All Vitalbix products are high in fiber and low in starch and sugar, making them a healthy choice.

Can I feed Vitalbix Fiber-Mix to my overweight horse?

Yes, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is a healthy supplement with a low sugar content.

Is your horse overweight? Then preferably do not feed more than 100-300 grams of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix per day. “Every pound goes through the mouth.”

It is also very important to feed overweight horses sufficient vitamins and minerals. Mix the Daily Complete pellets with 100-300 grams of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ for extra fiber to stimulate chewing. This prevents esophageal obstruction in horses that eat quickly.

Do not give extras such as carrots, apples, or products rich in starch and sugars. If you can choose a lower-quality type of hay, this is recommended.

The basis of a healthy weight is and remains good quality roughage. If your horse is overweight, it is probably consuming too much/too rich roughage. To help your horse lose weight, it is important to limit the amount of roughage, increase exercise, and avoid giving extras. The frequency of roughage is also important for an overweight horse; make sure your horse never goes without roughage for more than 4-6 hours. In addition, it is important that your horse does not lose weight too quickly.

Nutritional advice:

– Limit the amount of roughage, or choose a lower-calorie type of roughage

– Supplement the roughage with Vitalbix Daily Complete for the necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids

– Mix with 100-300 grams of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ or Vitalbix Pure Lucerne+ for extra fiber

My horse is too thin. Can I supplement its roughage with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix?

Yes, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix is a healthy supplement to roughage for horses that are too thin.

Roughage such as hay and grass is the basis of a healthy weight. Preferably, ensure that your horse has unlimited access to roughage and avoid periods without roughage. In many cases, the cause of underweight is insufficient roughage. Is it not possible to give more roughage at your stable? Then you can supplement the roughage with 2-6 kg of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix per day.

Does your horse get unlimited good-quality roughage and still not gain weight? Then have your horse examined by a veterinarian to rule out health problems such as worm infestation, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, limited intestinal function, a fungus in the intestines, or limited liver or kidney function, etc.

Too much starch and sugar in the diet can disrupt your horse’s intestinal flora. This reduces the absorption of nutrients from the feed. In this case, adjusting the diet can lead to improvement. Limit feed with a high starch and sugar content, such as regular pellets and muesli. Combine various Vitalbix products for optimal results:

  • Vitalbix Daily Complete, Vitalbix Active+, or Vitalbix Breed & Grow for the necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids
  • Vitalbix NutriMash for prebiotic fibers, extra calories, and extra B vitamins
  • Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ or Pure Lucerne+ for extra fibers, calories, and proteins
  • Vitalbix Linseed Oil as a source of extra calories (increase the amount gradually)

Is Vitalbix Fiber-Mix suitable for my older horse?

Yes, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ is a healthy supplement to roughage for older horses. Is your horse having trouble digesting hay? Then you can replace some or all of the hay with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+. Thanks to its short and soft structure, even horses with poor teeth can digest Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ well.

Can I also feed Vitalbix Fiber-Mix to my foal?

Yes, Vitalbix Fiber-Mix contains short & soft fibers that are easy to digest, making this product suitable for young horses.

To provide your foal with the necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, feed it Vitalbix Breed & Grow every day. You can supplement this with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix.

Natuly Organic Esparcette Pellets

Natuly’s Esparcette Pellets are a high-quality feed made from esparcette, an ancient leguminous forage crop renowned for its natural nutritional value. These pellets are dried, ground and pelletised without any additives or preservatives, and are ideal for horses that require a high-protein, yet low-energy diet.

Benefits of Natuly Esparcette Pellets:

  • Low in sugars, suitable for horses sensitive to sugar
  • High-quality source of protein for muscle recovery and growth
  • Low energy content, ideal for maintenance or as a dietary supplement
  • Made from the whole plant, ensuring a balanced diet
  • No additives or preservatives
  • Dried with warm air, ensuring nutrients are well preserved
  • 100% organic origin for a pure and natural product
Flo Féa added:

Esparcette (sainfoin) is a highly nutritious, legume-based feed for horses and offers a natural alternative to grain-heavy diets.

Rich in high-quality protein, digestible fibre and condensed tannins, it provides significant benefits for the digestive, muscular and metabolic systems.

The key benefits of esparcette for horses are as follows:

Digestive health and protection:
Reduced risk of colic and gas. Esparcette is highly digestible, reducing the risk of intestinal gas formation while supporting balanced, healthy gut flora.

It is gentle on sensitive stomachs and can benefit horses prone to gastric issues such as diarrhoea, colic or ulcers.

Natural parasite support: The condensed tannins (polyphenols) in esparcette create an environment that is hostile to intestinal parasites such as small strongyles, which may reduce faecal egg counts.
Please note that it is not a substitute for dewormers, but rather a natural support tool.
High-quality protein and muscle development: Esparcette is rich in amino acids, particularly lysine, threonine and methionine, which are essential for building and repairing muscle and supporting immune system function.
Ideal for specific groups: Due to its high-quality protein content, it is ideal for breeding mares, young growing horses, and horses recovering from illness.
It is also metabolic and senior-friendly, and contains low levels of sugar and starch. It is excellent for horses with metabolic issues, including insulin resistance, Cushing’s disease (PPID) and laminitis, as it contains low levels of sugar and starch.
Weight management: It is effective for horses that are too thin or need to gain weight, while remaining safe for those with sensitive metabolisms.
High calcium: Like alfalfa, it contains high levels of calcium, but has a more balanced nutrient profile, making it a safer option for supporting overall health.
Added nutritional value/natural antioxidants: It is rich in antioxidants.

Vascular support: It contains high levels of rutin, which promotes blood vessel elasticity.
No anti-nutrients: Unlike some other legumes, esparcette is free of oxalates and other anti-nutritional factors that can inhibit mineral absorption.

Summary:

Form: Pellets or dried hay.
Best used as: A supplement to pasture or hay.
Best for: All horses, especially those with sensitive digestion, metabolic issues or requiring high-quality nutrition to gain weight and muscle.

What are tannins?
Tannins are natural chemical compounds found in plants. They are polyphenols.
Key properties:
– Plant defence: Plants produce tannins to protect themselves from predators, insects and bacteria.
– Astringent taste: They create a dry, puckering sensation in the mouth by binding to proteins in saliva.
Binding ability: They bond easily with proteins, cellulose, pigments, and minerals.
Common sources include: Esparcette (sainfoin), bird’s-foot trefoil and certain tree leaves.
Human diet: Red wine, tea (especially black and green), dark chocolate, acorns and unripe fruit.
Industrial use: They have historically been used in tanning to turn animal hides into leather.
Key types:
Hydrolysable tannins: soluble in water, toxic to horses in large quantities (e.g. from oak leaves or acorns).
Condensed tannins: found in esparcette, safe for horses, provide digestive benefits.

Why is esparcette more difficult to harvest than alfalfa?
Esparcette (sainfoin) is more nutritious for horses than alfalfa, but harder and more expensive to grow. This is why alfalfa is the more popular forage crop, while esparcette is a premium speciality.

The main reasons why esparcette is more challenging to harvest and manage than alfalfa are:

1. Slow and limited regrowth (fewer cuttings);
Single or limited cuttings: Alfalfa is highly resilient and regrows quickly, enabling farmers to harvest three to five cuttings per season.
Slow recovery: Esparcette regrows very slowly after being cut. In most regions, farmers can only get one excellent first cutting, with a second cutting yielding very poorly. This significantly reduces the overall seasonal biomass yield compared to alfalfa.

2. High weed vulnerability during establishment.
Poor early competition: Esparcette seedlings grow slowly and have a smaller leaf surface area than alfalfa seedlings, meaning they cannot block out sunlight effectively.
Weed choking: As it does not establish a dense canopy quickly, weeds can invade esparcette fields. If weeds take over, harvesting pure esparcette without heavy weed contamination becomes difficult.

3. Lower root carbohydrate reserves
Easily damaged crowns: Esparcette relies on storing nutrients in its roots to survive winter and bounce back after a harvest.
Strict timing window: If a farmer cuts esparcette too late in summer or too close to a frost, the plant cannot rebuild its root reserves, resulting in the entire crop dying over winter. Alfalfa is more resilient to aggressive harvesting schedules.

4. Seed maturity and shattering: esparcette crops mature from bottom to top and single stems drop seeds from the bottom (mature) to the top (fresh).
Seed loss (shattering): if farmers wait for the top to ripen, the bottom seeds fall onto the ground and are lost.

5. Sensitive processing and nutrient retention risks: Industrial drying and processing requires controlled temperatures. Too rapid drying or excessive heat can cause amino acid loss (e.g. lysine) and tannin activity drop, requiring expert management and higher prices.

Key Rules of Organic Production
No synthetic chemicals: Farmers cannot use artificial pesticides, chemical weed killers (herbicides), or synthetic fertilizers.
No GMOs: Genetically Modified Organisms are strictly banned in organic farming.
Soil health focus: Fertility relies on natural methods like crop rotation, compost, animal manure, and cover crops.
No sewage sludge: Using municipal waste biosolid fertilizers is prohibited.
