Slobber
Horses often love a wet slop for several reasons. First, it smells and tastes more intense because of the water, which stimulates appetite, especially in picky or older horses. In addition, the soft, porridge-like texture is easy to eat and easily digestible, making it comfortable for horses with dental problems or sensitive stomachs. A slobber also helps to absorb extra fluids, which is especially helpful in hot weather, after exercise or when there is a reduced appetite for drinking. Finally, many horses associate a slobber with something tasty or “extra,” so it can also be a positive moment mentally.
