Description
PPID did not seem to exist in the past. A horse aged 15+ simply developed age-related ailments that worsened as it grew older. Sometimes, such a senior horse was lucky and the veterinarian thought of what we then called Cushing’s disease.
Fortunately, this has changed over the last 20 years. New scientific insights have become accessible to more people. We now know that many of these ‘ailments’ are characteristics of PPID, the current name for this nasty condition. PPID horses are much less likely to go unnoticed, because we are more likely to raise the alarm if we think our horse has PPID.
This book responds to the need to better understand what PPID is and what you, as a horse owner, can do to help your horse. In clear and understandable language, you can read about what this disease is and how it is diagnosed by the veterinarian. We take an in-depth look at the treatment of the problems you may encounter with PPID.
