ROUGHAGE IS ALWAYS THE BASIS
A young horse is typically a foal until about 3 years of age (physically mature between 6 and 8 years of age), in the phase of rapid growth and development. During this period, the horse has additional needs for high-quality protein, calcium, phosphorus and essential trace elements such as copper and zinc to support healthy bone development, muscle building and organ function. Energy from high-fiber or high-fat sources is also important, but sugars and starches should be limited so as not to stress digestion. A well-balanced diet helps prevent growth disorders and lays the foundation for a strong, healthy adult horse.
