Skincalmin Relief Lotion has an immediate soothing effect and reduces itchiness. The lotion supports the skin’s ability to recover.
Skincalmin Relief Lotion is widely used on horses with summer jitters and rasp.
Suggested use for summer jitters
Apply the lotion generously to problem areas. Using the spout cap, easily apply the lotion between the hairs of tail and mane. Use the lotion at the beginning of the season preventively to prevent summer itch and to avoid chafing. Usually 2-4 times a week is sufficient. At the first symptoms start applying lotion immediately. Should you start later, that’s no problem either. Apply the lotion to sensitive skin for an immediate soothing effect and to support the skin’s natural recovery. Apply the lotion to the problem areas at least once a day for the first 14 days. If necessary, apply twice daily. Preferably before the horse goes outside and back into the stable. As soon as the sensitivity of the skin decreases or disappears and the skin has recovered you can reduce the use to 3-4 times a week and later possibly to 1-2 times a week. When the itch increases again, for example on warm windless days, temporarily increase the frequency again. The lotion is very mild and can be used on the most sensitive parts of the skin. To be sure, always test the lotion on one area first before rubbing on all problem areas. Avoid contact with mucous membranes and eyes.
The lotion is easy to use, very mild, and safe to use. There is no need to wear gloves when applying the lotion.
Combination with a summer blanket
If your horse normally has a summer blanket on, you can first try the lotion in combination with the blanket. Once you notice that the skin is soothed you can try leaving the blanket off for a day. If that goes well for a few days, etc. Of course, you can also start immediately without the blanket. You have to judge for yourself. Spray your horse daily with Skincalmin Neutralizing spray to neutralize body odor.
Use advice for rasp
1. Itching and scabs on the lower legs can be caused by a mite infection. Always consult a veterinarian to rule this out. If mites are found, the vet will advise you to wash the legs with a special anti-mite shampoo. Once mites are ruled out/killed you can begin treatment with Skincalmin Relief Lotion.
2. If necessary, cut or shave away some hair and apply the lotion liberally to the skin daily. Massage well.
3. As soon as the scabs come off, you can carefully remove them. Do not remove scabs that will not come off on their own. Be careful not to cause new open wounds!
4. Keep repeating the treatment with the lotion daily until all scabs are gone.
5. Prevent new formation of new spots by continuing to treat the skin with the lotion once every 3-14 days.
The occurrence of rasp can be related to reduced resistance, deficiencies of certain vitamins & minerals or an excess of waste products in the body, among other things. In austere breeds, excess starch and sugars can aggravate rasp. Therefore, treat the rasp not only externally but also take a critical look at your horse’s ration.
6. Vitalbix Horse Feed is a responsible choice for these horses in terms of supplementing roughage (low in starch & sugars, balanced vitamin & mineral content).
7. Omega-3 fatty acids from linseed have anti-inflammatory effects. Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E can be supportive in treating rasp and summer jitters.
8. You can help the body expel waste products by supplementing herbs such as nettle, cleavers, dandelion or a special Detox supplement.
When in doubt or if symptoms get worse, always consult a veterinarian.
