What does NutriMash do for the intestinal flora?
Changes in feed, starch-rich nutrition, stress, and medications can disrupt the bacterial gut flora and lead to reduced nutrient absorption.
This can manifest in, among other things, loose stools, colic, or laminitis. Reduced immunity, poor shedding, decreased motivation to work, and poor recovery after exercise are also symptoms that are often not immediately associated with the intestines. Yet a healthy gut flora is the foundation for a healthy horse.
All Vitalbix products support a healthy gastric and intestinal flora thanks to their high fiber content and low starch and sugar content. Vitalbix NutriMash also contains an extra high proportion of prebiotic fibers (including inulin and pectin). These help promote the growth of good gut bacteria.
In practice, horses on a diet of roughage + Vitalbix show an improvement in manure quality and reduced sensitivity to diet changes (e.g., start of grazing season).
Does Vitalbix NutriMash contain vitamins and minerals?
Vitalbix NutriMash is intended as a supplement to Vitalbix Daily Complete or Vitalbix Active+ and, except for B-vitamins, contains no added vitamins and minerals. This allows you to feed NutriMash in larger quantities without overdosing certain minerals (such as selenium).
Horses generally produce sufficient B-vitamins in their bodies. However, when horses are ill, have a disturbed gut flora, or have to perform heavily, a deficiency of B-vitamins can occur in the body.
Can I mix in other Vitalbix products?
Sure! If your horse has difficulty chewing, or is a fussy eater, it is fine to mix your Daily Complete, Active+, Balance+ or Breed Grow with NutriMash. It’s also a popular ‘hiding place’ for supplements!
Sufficient roughage (hay and grass) distributed throughout the day and night is important to keep your horse’s digestive system healthy. Make sure your horse is not without roughage for longer than 4-6 hours. For horses with stomach ulcers, not longer than 2 hours.
Products with a high starch and sugar content (> 15%) can have a negative impact on the pH in the stomach (lowering the stomach pH). Therefore, for horses with a sensitive stomach, preferably choose feed with a starch and sugar content <15%.
Vitalbix NutriMash contains a high fiber content and has a total of 8% starch sugar.
The basis for a healthy weight is sufficient roughage, hay / haylage / fresh grass of good quality. Ensure that your horse has unlimited access to roughage, avoid periods without roughage. In many cases, the cause of underweight is insufficient roughage.
If your horse gets unlimited roughage of good quality and still doesn’t gain weight? Then have your horse examined by a veterinarian to rule out health problems such as worm infestation, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, stomach ulcers, limited intestinal function, fungus in the intestines, or limited liver or kidney function, etc.
Too much starch and sugars in the diet can disrupt your horse’s gut flora. This results in reduced absorption of nutrients from the feed. An adjustment to the diet can lead to improvement in this case. Limit feed with high starch and sugar content such as regular grain pellets and muesli. Combine various Vitalbix products for optimal results:
– Vitalbix Daily Complete or Vitalbix Active+ for the necessary vitamins and minerals (Active+ provides extra calories)
– Vitalbix Nutrimash for prebiotic fibers (stimulates a healthy gut flora) and contains extra B-vitamins
– Vitalbix Pure Lucerne+ for extra fibers, calories, and proteins
– Vitalbix Linseed Oil as a source of extra calories (gradually increase the amount)
No problem. Above all, make it the way your horse likes it best. With our own horses we have 1 that prefers to bite it very thickly, almost like a cake. But also 1 who prefers to drink it. It does not detract from the effect on the intestines. In any case, it is always important that your horse has access to fresh drinking water.
You can feed Vitalbix NutriMash at a young age, from about 3 months. Start with a small amount of about 200 grams per day and slowly build up as needed. Do not give a horse up to 1 year of age more than 1 kg per day, a foal of half a year max. 500-600 grams per day. For adult horses, we recommend a maximum of approx. 2 kg per day. For ponies, half the dose applies.
