How do I feed Vitalbix PsylliumMash?
Feed Vitalbix PsylliumMash (preventive) as a cure to support the removal of sand in the intestines Mix PsylliumMash with 1 to 3 parts water for a firmer mash and with 4 parts water for a very thin mash. You can vary with this, just what your horse likes! Use cold or warm, not boiling. Let stand for 10-15 minutes, stir and feed immediately! Not suitable for standing for long periods after preparation. The seeds swell up, and you want this to happen at the right moment in the intestines. For optimal effectiveness, do not mix with other Vitalbix products, supplements, or medication. Always consult your veterinarian first when using medication.
Provide your horse with sufficient roughage. A continuous supply of fibers helps to remove sand from the intestines and prevent sand accumulation in the gut. Additionally, make sure your horse always has enough drinking water available during the treatment!
Prevent sand ingestion
Prevent sand ingestment by never feeding hay from a sandy surface. Also, don’t let your horse graze on a (too) bare pasture. Check the manure regularly for sand by putting some manure in a clear plastic bag/glove along with water. Do you notice a lot of sand in the manure or does your horse have colic-like symptoms? Always contact your veterinarian immediately. Vitalbix PsylliumMash supports the removal of sand in the intestines, but is not a panacea. Preventing the absorption of (too much) sand remains important, even when you feed a product with psyllium. More tips on prevention and symptoms of sand colic can be found here.
