With our range of products, you can create a healthy diet for every horse. Vitalbix Horse Feed is a healthy choice for both leisure horses and those competing at the highest level. Combine the products as needed.
Changes in diet, starchy foods, stress, and medications can disrupt the gut microbiota and lead to reduced nutrient absorption.
This can manifest itself in symptoms such as loose stools, colic, or laminitis. Other symptoms include a weakened immune system, poor coat shedding, reduced willingness to work, and slower recovery after exercise—conditions for which the intestines are not always the first thing that comes to mind. Yet a healthy intestinal flora is the foundation of a healthy horse.
Thanks to their high fiber content and low starch and sugar content, all Vitalbix products support healthy gut flora. Vitalbix NutriMash also contains an extra-high proportion of prebiotic fibers (including inulin and pectin). These help promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
In practice, horses fed a diet of roughage plus Vitalbix show improved manure quality and reduced sensitivity to dietary changes (e.g., the start of the grazing season).
Vitalbix NutriMash is intended as a supplement to Vitalbix Daily Complete or Vitalbix Active+ and contains no added vitamins or minerals, with the exception of B vitamins. This means you can feed NutriMash in larger quantities without overdosing on certain minerals (such as selenium).
In general, horses produce enough B vitamins in their bodies on their own. However, when horses are sick, have an imbalance in their gut flora, or are under heavy physical strain, a deficiency of B vitamins can develop in their bodies.
Vitalbix NutriMash is very palatable and is generally well-received even by the pickiest eaters.
Tip:Some horses prefer their slobber to be a bit thinner, while others prefer it to be a bit thicker or firmer. Try to figure out what your horse prefers!
It is important to provide your horse with enough roughage (hay and grass) spread out over the day and night to keep its digestive system healthy. Make sure your horse does not go more than 4–6 hours without roughage. If your horse has stomach ulcers, do not let it go more than 2 hours without roughage.

The foundation of a healthy weight is an adequate supply of roughage—high-quality hay, haylage, or fresh grass. Make sure your horse has unlimited access to roughage and avoid periods without it. In many cases, the cause of underweight is insufficient roughage.
Is your horse getting an unlimited supply of high-quality roughage but still not gaining weight? If so, have your horse examined by a veterinarian to rule out health issues such as a worm infestation, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, stomach ulcers, reduced intestinal motility, a fungal infection in the intestines, or impaired liver or kidney function, etc.
Too much starch and sugar in your horse’s diet can disrupt its gut flora. This leads to reduced nutrient absorption from the feed. Adjusting the diet can help improve this situation. Limit foods high in starch and sugar, such as regular grain mixes and muesli. Combine various Vitalbix products for optimal results:
– Vitalbix Daily Complete or Vitalbix Active+ for essential vitamins and minerals (Active+ provides extra calories)
– Vitalbix Nutrimash for prebiotic fiber (promotes healthy gut flora) and contains extra B vitamins
– Vitalbix Pure Lucerne+ for extra fiber, calories, and protein
– Vitalbix Linseed Oil as a source of extra calories (increase the amount gradually)
You can start supplementing with Vitalbix NutriMash at a young age, from around 3 months old. Start with a small amount of about 200 grams per day and gradually increase the amount as needed. Do not give a horse under 1 year old more than 1 kg per day, and a 6-month-old foal no more than 500–600 grams per day. For adult horses, we recommend a maximum of approximately 2 kg per day. For ponies, use half the dosage.
