Peat moss is a natural substance that comes from the soil. It originated from plant remains that ended up in stagnant water thousands of years ago. Think of flowers, herbs, grasses and fruits. Over time, these plant remains have broken down and been compressed. What remains is a dark, lumpy peat.
What makes peat extract special is its origin: it is extracted from a subfossil layer in Austria, where the peat has been completely sealed under sand and rock for around 7,000 years. It is often found at a depth of a few metres. Thanks to natural preservation, it is pure and stable. No additives or chemicals are used; peat extract is a pure natural product.
Why is it good?
- Peat extract naturally contains a wide variety of organic substances and minerals, such as silicon. During the maturation process, humic acids, fulvic acids and other compounds are formed that can bind to other substances.
- Humic acids are organic compounds that are formed during the decomposition of plant material in peat, compost or soil. They bind to other substances and clean up the mess, as it were. Humic acids do not dissolve in water.
- Fulvic acids are similar and also bind to other substances in the soil, but the molecules are smaller and they do dissolve in water.
- Natuly Peat Extract does not contain any binding agents, flavour enhancers or preservatives.
This makes peat extract an interesting addition to the daily ration, also in combination with other products such as bokashi.
