Spot check on a small area of skin before use and do not use if a reaction is shown. Rub a small amount onto visible areas of the ear and face. Do not get any in deeper parts of the ear. Re-apply as required.
Can I use Ear Balm on other animals?
We recommend not. We do not know of any other species being intolerant to any of the ingredients, but as Ear Balm is formulated for horses reactions to its ingredients in other animals have not been studied.
Are there any other safety precautions for Ear Balm?
Ear Balm contains nut oils (shea) so it should be kept out of contact with anyone who has nut allergies. With any products containing essential oils we recommend doing a patch test prior to more extensive application on skin.
This horse presented with a large number of fingerprint sized areas of hair loss and scurf all over his forehead and underneath his forelock.
This horse presented with a large number of fingerprint sized areas of hair loss and scurf all over his forehead and underneath his forelock. These were sore and itchy, though to have been caused by a reaction to fly bites.
Ear Balm was rubbed into the area on a daily basis, which the horse seemed to visibly enjoy.
Within 4 days the itchiness had subsided and the hair had completely grown back.
‘Sokkul' a 7 year old imported Icelandic pony was in the UK for his second year. During the summer his ears became sore with severe hair loss due to rubbing.
During the summer his ears became sore with severe hair loss due to rubbing.
The owner tried baby oil, Sudocreme, neem oil and summer fly cream with no improvement.
Ear Balm was recommended by a friend and was applied twice a day to the ears. Irritation seemed to subside immediately and Sokkul no longer felt the need to rub them.
Within 2.5 weeks the skin was healed and within 5 weeks the hair had completely regrown.
“Ear Balm was amazing and I shall definitely use it again and recommend it!”

How it all started
Founded in 2006, Red Horse Products specialises in solutions that are effective and also support healthy tissue growth and regeneration. Our products do not contain caustic ingredients or the bulky fillers found in many mass marketed products. Our business is customer focused and from the start has been demand, rather than profit, driven.
In fact the initial products were developed with no thoughts of selling them or founding a company! A client (Sam schooled and looked after event horses) had 2 horses experiencing various skin and hoof issues. None of the products on the market were helping so Sam and his Dad (a retired vet and beekeeper) developed HoneyHeel and Hoof-Stuff to try to help these horses. The results were impressive and word of mouth led to numerous requests for the products. At the same time Sam was researching and developing further products for use on his 2 barefoot event horses while working alongside his own vet, EP and farrier. As more and more pots were requested to be used on other horses we decided to setup a website and from there the company came to life!
