Skincalmin Relief Lotion has an immediate soothing effect and reduces itching. The lotion supports the skin’s regenerative capacity.
Skincalmin Relief Lotion is widely used on horses with summer itching and rasp.
Recommended use for summer itch
Apply the lotion generously to the problem areas. Using the spout cap, you can easily apply the lotion between the hairs of the tail and mane. Use the lotion at the beginning of the season as a preventive measure against summer itch and to prevent rubbing. Usually, 2-4 times a week is sufficient. Start applying the lotion immediately at the first signs of symptoms. If you start later, that is no problem either. Apply the lotion to sensitive skin for an immediate soothing effect and to support the skin’s natural recovery. Apply the lotion to the problem areas at least once a day for the first 14 days. If necessary, apply twice a day. Preferably before the horse goes outside and returns to the stable. Once the sensitivity of the skin decreases or disappears and the skin has recovered, you can reduce the use to 3-4 times a week and later possibly to 1-2 times a week. When the itching increases again, for example on warm, windless days, temporarily increase the frequency again. The lotion is very mild and can be used on the most sensitive areas of the skin. To be on the safe side, always test the lotion on one area first before applying it to all problem areas. Avoid contact with mucous membranes and eyes.
The lotion is easy to use, very mild and safe. It is not necessary to wear gloves when applying the lotion.
Combination with a summer blanket
If your horse normally wears a summer blanket, you can first try the lotion in combination with the blanket. Once you notice that the skin has calmed down, you can try leaving the blanket off for a day. If that goes well, try a few days, etc. Of course, you can also start immediately without a blanket. You should assess this yourself. Spray your horse daily with Skincalmin Neutralising Spray to neutralise body odour.
Recommended use for rasp
1. Itching and scabs on the lower legs can be caused by a mite infection. Therefore, always consult a vet first to rule this out. If mites are found, the vet will advise you to wash the legs with a special anti-mite shampoo. Once mites have been ruled out/killed, you can start treatment with Skincalmin Relief Lotion.
2. If necessary, trim or shave some hair away and apply the lotion generously to the skin every day. Massage in well.
3. Once the scabs come loose, you can carefully remove them. Do not remove scabs that do not come off on their own. Be careful not to cause new open wounds!
4. Continue to repeat the treatment with the lotion daily until all scabs have disappeared.
5. Prevent new spots from forming by continuing to treat the skin with the lotion once every 3-14 days.
The development of rasp can be related to reduced resistance, deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals, or an excess of waste products in the body. In lean breeds, an excess of starch and sugars can exacerbate rasp. Therefore, do not only treat the rasp externally, but also take a critical look at your horse’s diet.
6. Vitalbix Horse Feed is a responsible choice for these horses as a supplement to roughage (low in starch and sugars, balanced vitamin and mineral content).
7. Omega-3 fatty acids from linseed have an anti-inflammatory effect. Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E can support the treatment of rasp and summer itch.
8. You can help the body eliminate waste products by feeding herbs such as nettle, cleavers, dandelion or a special detox supplement.
If in doubt or if the symptoms worsen, always consult a vet.
