Diatomaceous earth: Fine powder, source of silicon, 100% natural and multi-purpose

Diatomaceous earth, also known as silica earth or kieselguhr (E551c), is a pure natural product consisting mainly of the mineral silicon. This earth comes from the fossilised skeletons of single-celled algae (diatoms), which formed in freshwater deposits millions of years ago.

Silicon is the second most common element in the earth’s crust after oxygen and plays a natural role in soil, plants and animals. Diatomaceous earth is free from additives, unmodified and suitable as an additive for animal feed (feed grade).

Diatoms are microscopic single-celled organisms with a mineral skeleton rich in amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Natuly’s diatomaceous earth contains on average >69% silicon and approximately 15 other trace elements.

Use:

Mix into the feed, moisten slightly.
Can be used as part of a mineral buffet. Dissolve one tablespoon of diatomaceous earth in 1 bucket of water and offer alongside fresh drinking water.

Can also be used externally by powdering it into the coat, sprinkling it in the living area or adding it to chicken sand baths.

Precautions for use: Moisten before mixing into feed.

Do not inhale! Always use a dust mask and eye protection when dust is formed.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes due to the drying effect of diatomaceous earth.

Store in a dry place, unlimited shelf life when stored correctly.

A mineral bar (or mineral buffet) for horses is a system that gives your horse a choice of various loose minerals and trace elements, often in water solution (such as Celtic sea salt, peat moss, spirulina) or as loose powder, so that the horse can lick what it needs to supplement its basic diet. It is a natural form of enrichment that stimulates the horse's self-regulating ability, unlike a standard lick block, which is often more limited.

What is it?
An arrangement with multiple containers or drinking troughs, each filled with a specific mineral/ingredient.
Offers freedom of choice and encourages natural behaviour, as horses in the wild also consume minerals from the soil.

Commonly used ingredients:
Salt: Celtic sea salt (in water or loose).
Liquid additives: Peat water, green clay, nettle, rosehip, Bering Sea water.
Trace elements: Sometimes supplemented with spirulina or diatomaceous earth (silicic acid) for silicon, for example.
Base: A regular salt lick (salt, with or without extra minerals) is often added to meet sodium and chloride requirements.

Benefits for the horse:
Can supplement deficiencies.
Promotes mental enrichment and independence.
Is a supplement to, and not a complete replacement for, a balanced basic diet (balancer/mineral mix).
