Laminitis. Many horse owners find themselves confronted with this disease at some point. And when it strikes, you feel completely helpless when faced with your horse, pony or donkey unable to walk. You want to help, but you don’t know how. Acting quickly can prevent a lot of suffering. This book explains in detail what happens in a horse’s body just before and during a laminitis attack.
The latest scientific discoveries concerning the influence of sugars, hormones, drugs, underlying diseases such as DPIP (Cushing’s), treatment methods, toxins and stress are among the topics covered. The extreme importance of diet, housing, freedom of movement and hoof care are also discussed at length.
This book offers practical solutions and simple preventive measures. The emphasis is on the fundamental role you play as an owner. In short, after reading ‘Laminitis: Understanding, Healing, Preventing,’ you will know how to help your horse heal and stay healthy.
This book can also serve as a reference for veterinarians and hoof care professionals. Too many professionals in the equestrian world lack knowledge about this complex problem, and laminitis is often diagnosed too late, or not even recognised at all. Commonly used treatments are often ineffective because they are based on outdated opinions and theories, or because they focus only on the feet. This book aims to change that, providing effective solutions and broadening the approach to the horse as a whole.
‘Laminitis: Understanding, Healing, Preventing’ is a must-read for anyone who cares for or works with horses, ponies or donkeys prone to this disease.
