Did you know that the name sea buckthorn tells a fascinating story? The Latin name Hippophae rhamnoides comes from the Greek words hippos (horse) and phao (to shine). The ancient Greeks mixed sea buckthorn into their horses’ feed to make their coats shine. The second part, rhamnoides, refers to rhamos, meaning thorny bushes. And indeed: with its prickly branches, the sea buckthorn is no easy bush to navigate.
By nature, sea buckthorn contains a wide range of nutrients, including vitamins A and B, and numerous bioactive plant compounds. This makes it a valuable addition to the daily diet, particularly during periods of increased need or for animals that are exercising intensively or recovering.
