Oils with a high proportion of omega-6 fatty acids and a low proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, such as sunflower oil and soybean oil, are not a healthy choice for horses because these oils actually promote inflammation.

What is the difference between Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E and sunflower oil?

For horses, it is important that the oil you feed them has the right ratio of omega fatty acids.

Standard sunflower oil contains a lot of omega-6 and little omega-3 fatty acids, whereas it is better for horses to feed them an oil that contains more omega-3 than omega-6. A guideline that is often used for horses is 2-5:1 omega-3 to omega-6.

Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E contains approximately 58% omega-3 and approximately 15% omega-6, which meets this guideline. Too much omega-6 fatty acids in a diet can lead to increased inflammatory activity in the body.

Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E is high-quality cold-pressed linseed oil (first pressing) with natural vitamin E. The natural vitamin E, an important antioxidant, is optimally absorbed by the body thanks to the oil and ensures that the quality of the oil remains optimal. (1 IU vitamin E per ml).
Does your horse spend less than 6 hours a day in the pasture? Then it is wise to supplement with Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E for extra omega fatty acids! Fresh grass contains a small amount of fat (4-6%) that is high in omega-3 fatty acids (especially ALA). Since horses have evolved as grazers, they are adapted to a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids. When grass is dried into hay, most of these omega fatty acids, as well as vitamin E, are lost.

Daily feeding recommendation

For limited grazing

10–20 ml per 100 kg body weight. A horse weighing 500 kg should be fed 50–100 ml per day.

For dry skin/summer eczema

20 ml per 100 kg body weight. A horse weighing 500 kg should be given 100 ml per day.

To support the muscles

20 ml per 100 kg body weight. A horse weighing 500 kg should be given 100 ml per day.

For extra energy

30–60 ml per 100 kg body weight. A horse weighing 500 kg should be fed 150–300 ml per day.
