World MS Day
World MS Day is an international awareness day for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). It brings the global MS community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign for change. World MS Day is officially marked on 30 May but activities take place throughout the month of May and early June.

The Old Horses Lodge
“Since 1977, The Old Horses Lodge vzw has been a recognized refuge for neglected horses, ponies, and donkeys. We take in these animals with love and provide them with the necessary care and rehabilitation. Once they have recovered, we look for a warm and loving home where they can start a new life.
However, some animals stay with us permanently, such as seniors or horses that require intensive care. They enjoy a peaceful and carefree old age here in spacious stalls and on vast pastures. They receive customized nutrition and medical care under the watchful eye of our veterinarian.

“June 2012 – Fifteen neglected horses. Starving. Broken. Struggling to breathe under Andalusia’s relentless sun. A skeletal mare collapses, her eyes vacant. As Laura kneels beside her, cradling the dying animal’s head, she makes a silent promise: This ends now.
To stand by idly while this happens, and keeps happening, is not an option for Laura. She promises the mare to help all her kind in need, wherever she can.
Foundation Horse in Need Spain (= Paard in Nood Spanje) is born.
In Andalusia, Spain, lies Europe’s largest horse sanctuary: “Los Caballos Luna”, the rescue centre of Horse in Need Spain.
In a 175-hectare nature park with abundant trees and lakes, the horses, mules and donkeys live in semi-wild herds. Here, they finally live as horses should – free to enjoy life and grow old without fear. Some recover in our small clinic; others stay here forever, being too old, blind or traumatised to move on. For these animals, the suffering is over.
We stand ready for every horse in need, working tirelessly to prevent suffering and improve equine welfare. But we cannot do this alone. Our foundation relies entirely on donations and gifts; without outside support, we cannot help these horses.
