New: Light & Fit Gastro – Peace of mind for the stomach, strength in movement
Does your horse suffer from a sensitive stomach, digestive issues, or (recovery from) stomach ulcers? The road to recovery starts with the right nutrition. Meet Light & Fit Gastro, the premium feed specifically developed to protect the stomach lining and optimally balance the gut flora.
Why choose Light & Fit Gastro?
A horse with stomach and intestinal issues needs a diet that is low in sugars and starch but rich in high-quality fiber and supportive additives. Our unique formula offers exactly that:
Stomach-Friendly & Low-Sugar: With extremely low sugar (3.7%) and starch (3.6%) content, Light & Fit Gastro minimizes peak loads on the stomach and prevents acidification.
Optimal Fiber Mix: A rich base of alfalfa, sainfoin, and timothy stimulates chewing and saliva production. Saliva is the natural buffer against stomach acid.
Intestinal Support with Yea-Sacc® 1026: This high-quality yeast culture promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria, ensuring stable digestion and better nutrient absorption.
Healthy Fats: Flaxseed oil and coconut flakes provide safe, slow-release energy and support a shiny coat without making your horse “hot-blooded.”
The Power of the Formula
Thanks to the addition of ingredients such as brewer’s yeast, magnesium oxide, and sodium bicarbonate, this feed acts as a natural aid in maintaining a healthy pH level in the stomach. With an EWpa of 0.74, it is also the perfect choice for horses that gain weight easily or are on a controlled diet.
“Give your horse the comfort it deserves. Light & Fit Gastro: Scientifically backed, naturally balanced.”
1. Natural “Acid Buffers”
Stomach ulcers are often caused by a pH level that is too low (excessive acidity) in the stomach. On this label, we see three crucial substances that combat this:
Sodium bicarbonate: This is a direct buffer that neutralizes stomach acid as soon as it comes into contact with the stomach contents.
Magnesium oxide: Often acts as an “antacid.” It helps control stomach acidity over a longer period.
Calcium carbonate: In addition to supporting bone development, this is a well-known substance for protecting the stomach lining against aggressive stomach acid.
2. The Role of Saliva (Fiber Structure)
The label lists alfalfa, sainfoin, and timothy as main ingredients. These are coarse fibers.
Why this helps: A horse with stomach ulcers needs saliva to protect the stomach lining. Saliva naturally contains bicarbonate. Because these fibers require a lot of chewing, the horse produces maximum saliva, which continuously “coats” the stomach lining with a protective layer.
3. “Safe” Energy Without Sugar Spikes
With stomach ulcers, you definitely want to avoid the fermentation of sugars in the stomach, as this produces extra lactic acid and worsens the ulcer.
With only 3.6% starch and 3.7% sugar, this food is almost unmatched in its low content.
Instead of grains, this food uses flaxseed oil and coconut flakes. Fats form a protective layer over the stomach contents and slow gastric emptying, so the stomach doesn’t become “empty” as quickly and is therefore less vulnerable.
4. Restoration of the Mucosal Barrier
Apple pulp: Contains pectins. In an acidic stomach environment, pectins form a gel-like substance that can help coat the stomach wall, creating a physical barrier between the stomach acid and the damaged area (the ulcer).
Brewer’s Yeast & Yea-Sacc: Stomach ulcers are often accompanied by disrupted gut flora (because the pH balance shifts throughout the digestive tract). These supplements ensure that digestion further down in the intestines remains optimal, allowing the horse to experience less stress and better absorb nutrients to aid recovery.
5. Stress Reduction Through Magnesium
Horses with stomach ulcers are often nervous or irritable due to the pain. The extra magnesium oxide in this feed not only helps the stomach but also has a relaxing effect on the nervous system and muscles. A relaxed horse recovers faster from stomach problems than a horse that is tense from stress.
In short: This feed tackles the problem on three fronts: it neutralizes existing acid, it protects the stomach lining, and it supports the horse’s overall well-being.
Difference with Light and Fit Muesli:
The GASTRO formula contains no herbs; instead, it uses coconut flakes and beetroot. It incorporates a neutralizing agent (sodium bicarbonate): sodium bicarbonate reacts with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This immediately reduces the acidity of the environment, providing relief from heartburn and acid reflux.
Also added: a special vitamin A, E, and D. Again, for digestion
