Clay based cleansing hoof putty
Artimud fills shallow gaps in hooves and provides long-lasting protection against damage. It contains naturally active agents that cleanse the area and support the formation of healthy tissue.
Its thick, putty consistency makes it easy to apply and helps it stay firmly in place so the protective agents can work for longer.
Artimud is ideal for protecting shallow white line crevices, frog clefts and external cracks. It is often used under stick-on shoes and pads to keep soles and frogs in healthy condition. For deeper, tighter cracks, try Hoof-Stuff .
Should I use Hoof-Stuff or Artimud?
Hoof Stuff is generally used where the crevice is deeper and able to retain a fabric based pack. As a general rule deep & narrow = Hoof Stuff, shallow & wide = Artimud.
As a test see if damp cotton wool will pack into the crack, if it will Hoof Stuff will probably work best, if not opt for Artimud.
Should I flush the crevice before packing it?
Ideally the first time at least. Allow it to dry well before Artimud application as this will help the product stick better.
What should I flush it out with?
We recommend flushing with Sole Cleanse but anything ‘gentle’ will suffice e.g. salt water, dilute vinegar etc. Avoid flushing with iodine, peroxide, bleaches etc. as these may damage otherwise healthy tissues.
Do you have to remove Artimud and clean crevices daily or does product stay in for certain time?
The length of time the Artimud stays in for varies dependent on specific conditions. Generally if the Artimud is staying well in the crevice then replacement is not necessary. People usually find they have to replace it every few days.

All of the ingredients in Artimud are natural and have been chosen either for their active properties or to enhance the consistency of the putty.

Green French Clay
An antibacterial clay that gives the putty its unique consistency.

Honey
Honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties and makes the putty sticky and pliable.

Natural Minerals
Powerful yet gentle active agents that cleanse and support natural sole and frog regeneration.

Essential Oils
A highly effective essential oils that cleanse and toughen weakened structures.
We have removed tea tree oil from the formula because it can cause allergic reactions in some horses. Tea tree oil can also reduce the activity of the beneficial bacteria on the hoof.
Remove any debris from the area to be packed and dry thoroughly. Artimud can be smoothed, rolled, squashed, spread and moulded. Push the putty into the crack and smooth off. Talc or tissue can be applied to prevent sticking. Artimud is also ideal for packing on the foot and either side of the frog prior to application of impression material, pads and stick-on shoes.

‘Spice’ a 21 year old, cushings, insulin resistant cob, had a large portion of her hoof crumble away due to seedy toe – despite being shod.
Artimud was applied deep into the large cavity at the front of her toe after the area had been thoroughly cleaned.
Infection was prevented from returning and the Artimud kept the cavity clean. The hoof wall gradually grew down and remained mechanically strong.
Within 6 months the gap had nearly completely disappeared with no sign of infection returning. “my farrier is really pleased with the results!”
