Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy

Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy is a high-quality complete balancer full of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and amino acids. This balancer contains various grasses, including Timothy grass, and is free from alfalfa.

Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy contains no grains or added sugars and therefore has a very low starch and sugar content (3% and 3%). The pellets have a low calorie content, comparable to hay. This makes Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy a healthy choice for overweight horses and horses that need a diet with a low starch and sugar content.

Use Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy as a complete supplement to roughage or combine it with Vitalbix Active+ fiber-rich sport muesli for extra energy.

FAQ:

My horse is too thin. How can I help him gain weight?

The basis of a healthy weight is sufficient roughage, hay/haylage/fresh grass of good quality. Make sure your horse has unlimited access to roughage and avoid periods without roughage. In many cases, the cause of underweight is insufficient roughage.

Does your horse have unlimited access to good quality roughage and is it still not gaining weight? Have your horse examined by a veterinarian to rule out health problems such as worm infestation, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, stomach ulcers, limited intestinal function, intestinal fungus, or limited liver or kidney function, etc.

Too much starch and sugar in the diet can disrupt your horse’s intestinal flora. This reduces the absorption of nutrients from the feed. In this case, adjusting the diet can lead to improvement. Limit feed with a high starch and sugar content, such as regular grain mixes and muesli. Combine various Vitalbix products for optimal results:

– Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy or Vitalbix Active+ for the necessary vitamins and minerals (Active+ provides extra calories)

– Vitalbix NutriMash for prebiotic fiber (stimulates healthy intestinal flora) and contains extra B vitamins

– Vitalbix Pure Lucerne+ OR Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ for extra fiber, calories, and protein

– Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E as a source of extra calories (increase the amount slowly)

Very low in starch (3%) and sugar (3%)—contains NO added sugars

FAQ:

My horse has a vitamin and mineral deficiency. How can I remedy this?

Has your horse been receiving little supplementary feed recently (none or less than the Recommended Daily Allowance)? If so, your horse may have developed vitamin and mineral deficiencies. To replenish these deficiencies, we recommend feeding your horse a higher dose of Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy for the first 8 weeks. The required dosage depends on your horse’s general health and the amount of work it does. Has a deficiency been detected by a blood test carried out by a veterinarian? If so, it may be useful to (temporarily) add a supplement to its feed. Request free, personalized nutritional advice and include the results of the blood test. We are happy to help!

How can I combine Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy with Vitalbix Active+ for extra energy?

Are you lacking power while riding and want to boost your energy levels? Then supplement Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy with Vitalbix Active+ fiber-rich sports muesli. Vitalbix Active+ also contains Vitalbix Daily Complete vitamins and mineral pellets (24%). This makes it easy to replace 120 grams of Daily Complete with 500 grams of Active+ for extra energy. Read more about Vitalbix Active+ high-fiber sports muesli here.

Can I safely feed Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy to horses with sensitive stomachs?

Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy has a very low starch and sugar content (3% and 3%), has no negative effect on the pH in the stomach, and can be safely fed to horses with sensitive stomachs. Mix approx. 200 grams of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ into the Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy pellets for extra fiber. Fiber-Mix+ stimulates chewing and saliva production and has a buffering effect on the pH in the stomach. To support the stomach and intestines, you can feed 1-2 portions of Vitalbix NutriMash grain-free mash daily. To keep your horse’s digestive system healthy, it is important that your horse has a constant supply of roughage. Make sure your horse does not go without roughage for too long (preferably no more than 4 hours).

Can I feed Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy to my overweight horse?

Preferably feed your horse good quality hay/haylage with a low energy value. You can replace part of the hay with grass seed hay or straw. Be careful of colic (max. 2 kg per day for a 500 kg horse).

Roughage is the basis of a healthy weight. As a minimum (rough) guideline, you can use 1.5-2 kg per 100 kg body weight, which amounts to approximately 7.5-10 kg of roughage per day. This amount also depends heavily on the dry matter content – hay or haylage also contains a certain amount of water. Please note: in combination with grazing, it may be necessary to reduce the amount.

Because your horse is getting less roughage, it runs the risk of a protein deficiency in its diet. Sometimes a protein deficiency during weight loss can lead to muscle loss instead of fat loss. In that case, it may be necessary to replace a small portion of the roughage with Vitalbix Pure Lucerne+ for extra protein (amino acids) to prevent muscle loss.

Please note: a horse should lose no more than 1% of its target weight per week. With a target weight of 500 kg, your horse should lose no more than 5 kg per week. In practice, this usually takes a little longer. This means that you really need to take months to lose weight in horses.

Do all horses like Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy?

Do you feed your horse a regular muesli based on grains and molasses (added sugars)? Then your horse may need to get used to the taste of the new feed. Vitalbix contains no (whole) grains and no added sugars. It’s a bit like drinking tea with sugar and then switching to tea without sugar. We therefore recommend mixing the old ration with Vitalbix for at least 2 weeks.

Vitalbix is normally well eaten by most horses. Because Vitalbix contains no added sugar, your horse may be less enthusiastic about it or leave it untouched at first. It is important to give it some time, and you will see that your horse will start to eat it well. Feed with added sugar is often eaten too quickly, which is not natural behavior for horses. It is better to see them chewing their feed calmly.

Vitalbix Daily Complete is available in two varieties: Vitalbix Daily Complete, which is based on alfalfa, and Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy, which is based on timothy grass. If your horse does not find the alfalfa-based Vitalbix Daily Complete tasty enough, try Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy! It has a different base and therefore a different taste.

I want to feed my horse a lucerne-free diet. Is Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy suitable?

Yes, Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy contains a base of timothy grass and other grasses and does not contain lucerne.

Mix Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy with some Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ for extra fiber to stimulate chewing. Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ is a unique roughage mix without lucerne and without added sugars.

Did you know?

Vitalbix Daily Complete is the No. 1 vitamin and mineral balancer on www.VoerVergelijk.nl and has been rated with an average score of 9.1

A healthy combination

By combining different Vitalbix products, you can put together an optimal ration tailored to the specific needs of your horse. For example, mix Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy pellets with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ for extra fiber. This stimulates chewing and saliva production and keeps your horse’s stomach and intestines healthy!

TIP:

Is your horse 19 years or older? Then give a slightly higher dose of Vitalbix Daily Complete. As horses age, their ability to absorb nutrients from their feed decreases.

------------------------------
Why are these additives (like garlic) safe?
The safety of additives in BF Petfood products is guaranteed by three factors:

1. Strict Dosage Control: The amount of garlic in the tablets and bonbons is tiny (approx. 4% to 5%). For a 10 kg dog, the toxic limit is around 50 grams of fresh garlic per day. These supplements remain a factor of 50 to 100 below this threshold, even at maximum dosage.
2. No Synthetic Substances: BF Petfood uses only natural ingredients. This prevents reactions to artificial colors, scents, and flavors, which are often the true cause of "allergic" symptoms.
3. Quality Control on Thiosulfates: The garlic extracts used are dosed to retain beneficial properties (for immunity) while ensuring that thiosulfates (the substances harmful to red blood cells) pose zero risk in these low concentrations.

In the world of dog food and supplements, these three terms refer to how the food is made and how it affects the dog's body. Here is the explanation for each:

1. Pressed Dog Food (Cold Pressed)
'Pressed' refers to the manufacturing process. Unlike standard kibble, which is cooked at high temperatures under pressure (extrusion), pressed food is produced at lower temperatures (approx. 70°C–75°C).
The Process: The ingredients are mixed and pressed through a die into a pellet shape.
The Benefit: Because the heat is lower, more natural vitamins, minerals, and oils remain intact.
Digestion: Pressed kibble dissolves from the outside in and does not swell in the stomach. This makes it easier on the digestive tract and reduces the risk of "bloat" (stomach torsion).

2. Crispy Dog Food (Extruded)

"Crispy" (often referred to as krokant in Dutch) is the standard crunchy kibble most people know.
The Process: The ingredients are cooked at high temperatures (above 100°C) and "puffed" through an extruder.
The Benefit: The high heat makes the starches more digestible (pre-gelatinized). The crunchy texture also helps mechanically clean the teeth as the dog chews.
Digestion: These kibbles tend to float and swell when they come into contact with moisture in the stomach.

3. Hypoallergenic

'Hypoallergenic' means that the food is formulated to have a very low risk of causing an allergic reaction.
Limited Ingredients: It usually contains only one protein source (e.g., lamb, duck, or venison) and one carbohydrate source (e.g., rice or potato) that are not commonly associated with allergies.
Novel Proteins: It often uses "exotic" proteins that the dog has never eaten before (like horse or rabbit), so the immune system doesn't recognize them as a threat.
Hydrolyzed Protein: In some medical diets, the protein is "chopped up" into such tiny pieces (hydrolyzed) that the dog's immune system cannot detect it, preventing an allergic response.

Summary Table
Term Main Characteristic Best For
Pressed Low temp, no swelling in stomach. Sensitive stomachs, active dogs.
Crispy Crunchy, helps with teeth cleaning. Dogs that like to chew, easy storage.
Hypoallergenic Avoids common allergens (beef/chicken). Dogs with itchy skin or food allergies.

The average shelf life of BF Petfood (Biofood) kibble and other dry products is 12 to 18 months from the date of production.

However, this duration significantly changes once the package is opened. For optimal quality and safety, follow these specific timelines based on industry standards and manufacturer advice:
Shelf Life Guidelines
Unopened: 12 to 18 months, as long as it is stored in a cool, dry, and dark place. Always refer to the "best before" date stamped on the packaging.
Opened: Once the seal is broken, it is highly recommended to consume the kibble within 4 to 6 weeks. Exposure to oxygen begins a process called oxidation, which can cause fats to go rancid and nutrients (like vitamins) to degrade. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Critical Storage Tips for Freshness
To reach the maximum shelf life, BF Petfood and other experts recommend:
Keep it in the original bag: The packaging is specifically designed to act as a barrier against moisture and air.
Use an airtight secondary container: For extra protection, place the entire original bag inside an airtight plastic or metal bin.
Avoid high temperatures: Store the food below 21°C (70°F). Never store pet food in garages, sheds, or near heat-emitting appliances, as heat accelerates spoilage and attracts pests.
Never mix batches: Do not pour new kibble on top of old remains in a container, as residual old fats can contaminate the new food. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Signs of Spoiled Food:
If the food has a sour or rancid smell, visible mold, or if your dog refuses to eat a normally favored meal, discard it immediately.

Healthy cat food is based on the fact that cats are obligate carnivores. Their bodies are specifically designed to derive energy and nutrients from animal sources.

A balanced diet includes:High-Quality Animal Protein:
Meat or fish should be the main ingredient.

Proteins are essential for muscles, organs, and a healthy coat.

Taurine: This is a vital amino acid that cats cannot produce themselves. A deficiency can lead to blindness and heart problems.

Moisture (Wet Food): Cats naturally have a low thirst drive. Wet food helps maintain hydration and prevents kidney and bladder issues.

Healthy Fats: Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids for a healthy skin and to reduce inflammation.

Low Carbohydrates: Cats have very little need for sugars or grains. Too many carbs can lead to obesity and diabetes.

Here is the additional information about grain-free nutrition and the specific approach of BF Petfood for cats:

Grain-Free Food: Is it the best choice? For many cats, grain-free food is an excellent choice, but it is not a 'must' unless there is a specific allergy.

The Advantage: It better mimics the natural diet of a wild cat (mice, birds), as these prey animals contain almost no carbohydrates.

Digestion: Cats lack the enzyme (amylase) in their saliva to break down large amounts of starch. Grain-free food often prevents bloating and soft stools.

Weight Control: Many grain-free options replace grains with higher-quality meat, which helps prevent diabetes and obesity.

Why choose BF Petfood for your cat?
BF Petfood (Biofood) applies their "natural" philosophy to cat food with a focus on three key points:

High Meat Content: Their products (such as the High Energy or 3-in-1 lines) use chicken, beef, or fish as the main ingredient, providing the essential animal proteins cats need.

Urinary Tract Support: Cats are prone to bladder stones (struvite). BF Petfood adds ingredients that help regulate the pH value of the urine (acidification), which helps prevent the formation of crystals.Natural Extras:Salmon Oil: For a shiny coat and fewer hairballs.Taurine: Always added in the correct amount for a healthy heart and sharp vision.

Prebiotics: Such as inulin, to keep the cat's intestinal flora healthy.RecommendationFor the sensitive cat: Choose BF Petfood No Grain. This is based on fish and chicken and is completely free of wheat and corn. For the indoor cat: The 3-in-1 variant is ideal; it helps prevent hairballs, supports the urinary tract, and helps keep weight stable.

Healthy horse feed is designed to mimic a horse’s natural grazing behavior while meeting its specific energy needs.

A balanced diet generally consists of:Forage (The Foundation): High-quality grass or hay should make up at least 70-100% of the diet. It provides essential fiber for gut health and prevents boredom.

Vitamins & Minerals: A 'balancer' for mineral block ensures the horse gets copper, zinc, and selenium, which are often missing in pasture alone.

Clean Water: Constant access to fresh, clean water is vital for digestion and preventing colic. Low Sugar & Starch:

Healthy feed avoids excess grains and molasses to prevent metabolic issues like laminitis or obesity.

Healthy Fats: Additions like linseed (flaxseed) oil can provide "cool" energy and a shiny coat without making the horse hyperactive.

Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy is formulated based on the nutritional requirements of horses as specified in the CVB guidelines. Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy is GMO-free, soy-free, grain-free, molasses-free, and contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin. Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy does not contain alfalfa.

Composition

Timothy grass, pasture grass, apple pulp, linseed husks, chicory pulp, sunflower seed meal, sunflower seed hulls, sodium chloride, magnesium oxide, linseed, calcium carbonate, monocalcium phosphate

Vitamin and mineral ratios

Not only are the exact levels of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements important for a healthy diet, but the ratios between these nutrients are just as important. If the ratios are unbalanced, the nutrients will compete with each other, which can lead to deficiencies and health problems.

Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy does not contain any extra iron. The low iron content in Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy comes purely from the raw materials and, given the low feed intake, is negligible compared to the iron content in the entire diet.

How do I feed Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy?

Mix Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy pellets with Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ for extra fiber. This fiber ensures that your horse has to chew properly and stimulates saliva production. This prevents your horse from gorging itself and keeps its stomach and intestines healthy!

Is your horse at a healthy weight or is your horse overweight? Then a large handful of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ (1 Vitalbix measuring cup) is enough to stimulate chewing. Is your horse too thin or losing weight quickly? Keep the Vitalbix Daily Complete Timothy dosage the same (see feeding advice table) but increase the amount of Vitalbix Fiber-Mix+ as needed. Check here how much you can feed per day. As an extra, you can supplement with a portion of Vitalbix NutriMash grain-free mash.
